What is The Six11 Project?

A traditionally holistic approach to Jewish learning.

ho·lis·tic

characterized by the belief that the parts of something are interconnected and can be explained only by reference to the whole.

The Six11 Project is an innovative Jewish learning program whose purpose is to inspire Jews to become more connected to the rich, ancient literary tradition of the Jewish people. The concept for Six11 is rooted in the symbolism of the numerical value (through the system of Gematria) of the word Torah (611 = ת+ו+ר+ה) . The number also acknowledges Rabbinic Judaism's deep embrace of integrating the Written and Oral traditions. The numeric values for the Written Torah,  (424) בכתב, combined with Oral Torah, (187) בעל פה, add up to 611.

The Six11 Project focuses on methodological and integrative approaches to learning, which the rabbis referred to as שיטות (shittot), or methods. Every subject taught has a clear approach and framework, whether in Tanakh, Mysticism, Rabbinics or lifestyle. When taught through clear and focused methodologies and frameworks, learning becomes accessible, easier to absorb, more compelling, and inspiring.

Moshe Kline’s groundbreaking work on the Structured Torah and Structured Mishnah is the inspiration for this innovative approach to Jewish learning. The Six11 Project will fill a need for Jewish learning for people who work full time or do not have the time or resources to commit to a full-time program. It will inspire people to develop their own practices and fixed times to learn. In partnership with the Base LA community in the Picfair Village neighborhood, it will add to the already rich tapestry of Jewish communal offerings.

Once we get started, the possibilities for partnerships and innovative educational models are limited only by our capacity to create, imagine, and implement. We appreciate your partnership in helping to bring The Six11 Project to life.
